Nicholas James Dowey, 21, of Ventura, died Saturday as a result of a homicide.
Dowey was born March 31, 1976, in Orlando, Fla., and lived in Ventura County for 10 years. He was a junior at Cal State Northridge, where he was on the dean’s list and earned an academic scholarship.
Family members said he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed skiing, surfing and fishing.
He is survived by his parents, James and Ann Dowey of Ventura; brothers Sean and Colin, both of Ventura; and Jennifer, of Ventura.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, Ventura. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Ventura.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Regional Organ Procurement Agency of Southern California, 10920 Wilshire Blvd., #910, Los Angeles, CA 90024-6511.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, Ventura.
