A federal grand jury, probing Teamsters President Ron Carey’s reelection campaign, subpoenaed AFL-CIO records concerning more than $1 million the labor federation gave to Citizen Action. The liberal consumer group is accused of helping funnel illegal contributions to Carey’s coffers. AFL-CIO officials say they have cooperated with investigators attached to the U.S. attorney’s office in New York and they don’t believe that the federation or its officials are targets of the probe . . . Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America Inc.’s management encouraged an environment conducive to sexual harassment at the auto maker’s Normal, Ill., plant, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said . . . Microsoft Corp.’s high-profile online magazine Slate will try to win more readers under an agreement with America Online Inc. Under the one-year deal. Slate will become an “anchor tenant” of AOL’s revamped News Channel Newsstand, to be launched next month. . . . PhotoDisc, a Seattle-based pioneer in distributing pictures over the Internet, will merge with London-based Getty Communications, a larger competitor. The new company, to be called Getty Images, will include divisions that sell news, stock photos and stock video footage.
