City Hall to Undergo Seismic Retrofitting
Claremont City Hall will be vacated for a year beginning in November while the building undergoes a $3-million retrofit to seismically reinforce the structure and make it wheelchair accessible, officials said Tuesday.
Employees will relocate Nov. 14 to modular units on West First Street, which will serve as temporary city government headquarters until December 1998, when the project is slated for completion, said Mike Maxfield, community information coordinator.
During construction, City Council meetings will be held at the Hahn Building at Pomona College.
The City Hall structure on Harvard Avenue, which dates to the 1920s, was originally three separate buildings that over the years were joined together, Maxfield said.
