Trial Begins for Repeat Drunk Driver
Opening arguments in the murder trial of Walter Romine are set to begin today in Orange County Superior Court in Santa Ana.
Romine, of Buena Park, was arrested in December 1996 after he was involved in a car accident that killed 23-year-old Martha Limas in Fullerton. Police said Romine was drunk when he struck Limas’ car after running a red light.
Romine was a repeat drunk driver who had had three convictions from 1989 to 1991.
In court appearances for the earlier offenses, he paid several thousand dollars in fines and had been ordered to attend counseling. He completed 60 days of community service and had been sentenced to jail time.
