Planners to Consider Bluff-Top Resort
Kicking off a series of hearings regarding the controversial redevelopment of Treasure Island Mobilehome Park, the city’s Planning Commission tonight will consider a plan to build a resort community on the bluff-top parcel.
The landowner, a partnership headed by Merrill Lynch Hubbard and Costa Mesa businessman Richard Hall, has submitted plans to build a 100-room hotel and up to 97 homes at the site. Up to 50 of the homes may have multiple keys so they can be rented out as additional hotel rooms when the owner is away.
City officials have pushed for a larger resort and fewer homes, and Mayor Paul Freeman has said the plan being proposed is too vague.
Before the development can be approved, commissioners must consider amendments to the city’s general plan, adopting a development plan for the entire project and rezoning the land.
