POW/MIA Flag to Fly Year-Round; Veteran Earns Honor
Veterans won two honors when the City Council agreed this week to fly a POW/MIA flag year-round at City Hall and recognized a celebrated World War II soldier.
Council members agreed to fly the black and white banner honoring prisoners of war and those declared missing in action. Previously, the flag was flown only in May and November.
Costa Mesa joins Orange, Westminster, Huntington Beach, Fullerton and La Habra among Orange County cities that fly the flag, which shows a silhouette of a captive being watched from a guard tower, veterans said.
Also honored Monday was Harold “Bud” Hohl, commander of Veterans of Foreign War Post 3536 in Costa Mesa, for tireless volunteer work to the organization.
