South Coast Metro Freeway Signs Sought
The city will ask Caltrans to post a sign along the San Diego Freeway identifying the South Coast Metro area.
City Council members agreed Monday to ask for the sign to the residential and commercial district surrounding South Coast Plaza. The area includes portions of Santa Ana as well, but that city has not decided whether it will approach the state.
The council will ask that the sign read South Coast Metro, Costa Mesa. Municipal transportation officials indicated, however, that Caltrans will drop the city’s name.
The South Coast Metro area is bordered by the San Diego Freeway and the San Joaquin Hills Toll Road on the south, the Costa Mesa Freeway and Main Street on the east, Sunflower Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard on the the north and the Santa Ana River on the west.
