Here’s a sampling of birthday party ideas:

* Bay Shore Bowl, 234 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica, (310) 399-7731. Two-hour bowling party includes invitations, balloons, sodas, paper goods and four game tokens per child ($9.50 per person). With pizza ($11.75 per child).

* Beverly Hills Soccer by James, (310) 273-3505 or (213) 931-5611. Two-hour soccer parties for ages 5 to 10 with relay races, obstacle courses, soccer matches, a soccer ball pin~ata, party favors and a gift for the birthday child. ($300).

* Broadway Birthdays Acting Parties, (818) 766-2713. Birthday person picks favorite show or movie (examples: a fairy tale, “Aladdin,” “Grease” or “Annie”) to present with party guests serving as the cast. Professional entertainer Stephanie Silver supplies the scripts, costumes and music. Show will travel to your home or to a rented facility. ($175-$250).

* Kidspace Museum, 390 S. El Molino Ave., Pasadena, (818) 449-9143. This interactive museum for ages 1 to 10 has an indoor “beach,” a mini-market for kids to practice grocery shopping and more. The deluxe theme party for up to 20 children ($315) includes cake, ice cream, punch, a mini-tour, party favor bags and balloons. The museum is closed to the public for two hours during such parties. Also available without the cake ($235). A semi-private party ($160) includes a party favor bag for up to 15 children, use of a private birthday room and access to the museum, which remains open during the party.

* Laserium, at Griffith Park Observatory, 2800 E. Observatory Road, (213) 664-1191. Griffith Park picnic areas are available (free) for parties, which can be followed by one of Laserium’s evening light and sound shows set to progressive music. This could make a good party for teens. “Laser Visions” features New Age/progressive artists. “Star 98 Totally ‘80s 3-D Show” is a blast from the past set to the music of artists such as Oingo Boingo and the B-52s. “Lollapalaser 3-D Experience” features highlights of alternative rock shows with music by Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins and more. * Malibu Castle Park, 2410 Marine Ave., Redondo Beach, (310) 643-5166. Parties include one round of miniature golf per child, arcade game tokens, pizza, soda, use of a special birthday area, balloons, invitations and paper goods ($8.95 per person).

* Mother’s Beach, Via Marina, Marina del Rey (in front of Cheesecake Factory). Kids of all ages enjoy a beach party, and, with new playground equipment and a roped-off swimming area for kids, this is an especially good spot. Tips: Try a cake topped with plastic swimmers and paper umbrellas, or write invitations on inflated beach balls. (Access to beach is free, public parking $5 by machine after 9 a.m.)

* My Gym, 9218 W. Pico Blvd., Beverly Hills, (310) 274-9593, and three other area locations. Two-hour gym parties for ages 1 to 5 include games, dancing, puppet theater and time on gymnastic equipment ($325-

$400). Ninja Kid parties and ballet parties ($125-$175) include one-hour of instruction and games for kids in your home or in a park.
