Planning Panel OKs Roller Hockey Rink
A roller hockey rink may soon be coming to San Clemente.
The Planning Commission this week approved a proposal from the San Clemente Hockey Club to build a rink and parking lot at 108 Calle Lago.
The proposed rink would replace a towing yard and a portion of an auto storage yard. The project also would include converting a storage building at 1607 Calle Lago into accessory facilities for the roller rink. The new building would house a pro shop, sitting area, restrooms, snack bar and recreation office.
The proposed skating programs at the roller rink would include youth and adult hockey leagues, training clinics, summer camps and a pickup hockey program. In addition, the hockey club would offer a variety of programs to accommodate non-hockey players, such as skating aerobics, senior citizen hour and an open skate session.
Barring an appeal to the City Council, construction on the rink will begin as soon as the club gains approval for the project from the California Coastal Commission.
