Eagles Win First Conference Game
Quarterback Harry Leons passed for 218 yards and two touchdowns Saturday to help Eastern Washington beat Portland State, 31-14, in a Big Sky Conference football game in Portland, Ore.
Mike MacKenzie carried the ball 25 times for 99 yards. He entered the game in the second quarter to replace starter Rex Prescott, who had 68 yards in 13 carries despite suffering a shoulder injury in the first quarter.
Southwest Texas State 28, Montana State 26--David Williams passed for 242 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score as Southwest Texas State outdueled Montana State in a nonconference battle in San Marcos, Texas.
Montana 35, St. Mary’s 14--Darren Rowell completed 34 of 46 passes for 368 yards and three touchdowns, and ran for another touchdown for the Grizzlies at Missoula, Mont. Josh Paffhausen caught a school-record 15 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns for Montana, ranked No. 1 in Division I-AA.
Northern Arizona 40, Minnesota-Duluth 6--Travis Brown threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Lumberjacks at Flagstaff, Ariz.
Boise State 24, Weber State 7--Junior Todd Belcastro kicked three field goals and the Bronco defense limited Weber State to 97 yards rushing at Boise, Idaho.
