Two separate but almost simultaneous accidents Sunday night left one woman dead and eight people injured, including three children who were airlifted to hospitals.

The unidentified woman was thrown from her car and killed in a two-car accident in North Hollywood at 6:13 p.m., and adult twins were injured, one seriously. None of the victims were identified by authorities.

Two minutes later, another two-car accident, this one on the Golden State Freeway in Pacoima, injured six people, including three children. Two of the children, an 11-year-old boy and his 7-year-old sister, were airlifted to Childrens Hospital, where spokesman Steve Rutledge said the pair were in serious condition with chest injuries.

Another helicopter took the third child, a 9-year-old girl, to UCLA Medical Center. That child was in stable but serious condition Sunday night.

Two women, 66 and 32, were hospitalized in fair condition, and a third woman, 30, was hospitalized in stable condition, officials said.
