Council to Consider Computer Service Pact

Share

In an effort to save money, the City Council today will consider privatizing the city’s computer data processing services.

The council will consider a five-year, $20.6-million agreement with Systems and Computer Technology Corp., based in Malvern, Pa., and with a regional office in Irvine.

The city would save about $1.3 million over five years. The company would maintain and operate the city’s mainframe computer, personal computers and all the networks that connect them.

Under the plan, 24 full-time, four part-time and eight contract employees would be affected, but would be offered jobs with the company, said Jeff Stone, city budget manager.

One full-time employee would stay with the city to oversee the contract.

The city employees would be offered comparable pay and benefits and the company would have to retain them for at least six months.

But some of the affected employees have balked at the plan.

The meeting begins at 5 p.m. in Council Chambers, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd. Information: (714) 254-5166.
