Man, 57, Killed When Car Hits Freeway Wall
A driver speeding along the Moorpark Freeway in Thousand Oaks died Monday morning after losing control of his car and crashing into a freeway wall, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 57-year-old Apple Valley man, who was not immediately identified, was weaving in and out of traffic as he sped south near Olsen Road at 9:41 a.m., CHP officials said. He lost control of his Chevrolet Camaro, hit the center divider, veered across the highway and slammed head-on into the retaining wall, authorities said.
The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered massive head and chest injuries, authorities said. He was taken by ambulance to Columbia Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, where he was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m.
After the accident, a car driven by Courtney Mandell of Thousand Oaks rear-ended a pickup truck that had slowed down at the crash scene, officers said. Mandell, 20, was treated for minor injuries at Columbia Los Robles.
