Hurricane Pummels Pacific Coastline

Outer squalls of Hurricane Nora battered the tip of Baja California with lashing rain, winds and 15-foot waves, stranding cars, shutting businesses and sending visitors packing. Merchants taped up storefront glass with duct tape and tried to sweep out muddy water that filled their businesses in Cabo San Lucas, where tourists idled in hotel bars or huddled under drenched awnings. Raging seas whipped up by Nora also felled palm trees and tore away concrete foundations in Guerrero and Jalisco states, news reports said, but there were no reports of deaths or injuries.
