Student Serving as Page at Capitol
Dana Hills High School junior Ashley Choate is spending her fall semester in Washington, D.C., working as a page in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Ashley is one of 66 young people from across the United States appointed twice a year to serve as pages, who are messengers. Pages also help prepare the House for sessions and file the daily Congressional Record.
Ashley is serving as a page for the fall term, which started Aug. 31 and ends Jan. 24. She will be paid $1,000 a month.
As part of the program, the Dana Point resident attends school in the morning at the Library of Congress and works as a page in the afternoon.
To participate in the program, students must be at least 16 years old and have a 3.0 grade-point average. Ashley was sponsored by Rep. Ron Packard (R-Oceanside) for the program.
“She will be an outstanding representative of our school district while in the nation’s capital,” Capistrano Unified School District Supt. James A. Fleming said.
