Colleges Share Grant
IRVINE — Irvine Valley and Orange Coast colleges jointly won a $107,384 grant from the state’s community college chancellor’s office to train future workers for the semiconductor industry.
A Motorola Inc. unit in Irvine and Rockwell Corp. in Costa Mesa worked with the schools on the grant, which will be used to start a training center devoted to integrated circuitry. Students and employees at the two firms will be able to take classes, school officials said.
The facility could be housed at the Tustin Marine Corps Helicopter Air Station after Irvine Valley College takes over a portion of the base in 1999.
