Nine Players Selected in Waiver Draft
The Boston Bruins were the most active team in the waiver draft, claiming centers Tim Taylor and Robert Lang, among the nine players selected.
The New York Islanders picked left wing Tom Chorske from Ottawa and lost right wing Mick Vukota to Tampa Bay. New Jersey claimed left wing Scott Daniels from Philadelphia and lost center Pascal Rheaume to St. Louis. Calgary chose left wing Mike Peluso from the New York Rangers, the Mighty Ducks picked Severyn and Phoenix took goaltender Jimmy Waite from Chicago.

The Avalanche acquired defenseman Francois Leroux from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange a third-round selection in the 1998 entry draft.
