Casa Youth Shelter Benefit Raises $145,000
A weekend benefit for the Casa Youth Shelter raised $145,000 for the Reagan Street center, which helps teens in crisis.
Nearly 500 supporters attended the annual event, put on this year by 150 volunteers in the Grand Ballroom at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim.
The Saturday event featured dinner and an auction with a Route 66 theme, with sections of the hotel ballroom dedicated to stops in Chicago, St. Louis, Amarillo and other points along the fabled highway.
Volunteers sported “Get Your Kicks on Route 66” T-shirts featuring the old black and white highway emblem.
Since 1978, the shelter has served about 7,850 young people with temporary housing, counseling, food and other needs.
