2nd Hearing Planned on Liquor License

For the second time, the San Fernando City Council will hold a public hearing Monday to take testimony concerning the liquor license of Big Red Entertainment Center.

The San Fernando Valley Partnership vowed last month to file an appeal after the city’s Planning Commission granted the center a conditional-use permit to sell alcoholic beverages.

The entertainment center originally applied for a permit to sell beer and wine only, but the commission later decided to allow the center to sell all kinds of alcoholic beverages.

The permit was granted after owners of the entertainment center said they would remove electronic arcade games from the business.

The partnership objects to the center having the liquor license on the grounds that the south side of the city has too many businesses that sell alcohol.

Calls to the partnership Friday were not returned.

John Becker, chairman of the Planning Commission, said he thought there might have been an agreement between the two parties. “But I guess not if the partnership is going ahead with the appeal,” he said.

Monday’s hearing will begin at 7 p.m. in City Council chambers, 117 Macneil St.
