Fullerton Wins Two at Pacific

Benito Flores pitched a complete game for his seventh victory as Cal State Fullerton pummeled Pacific, 11-1, in the second game of a Big West Conference doubleheader Saturday in Stockton.

Flores (7-0) held Pacific to five hits, struck out four and walked three.

Aaron Rowand was three for five for the Titans (25-11, 11-3), including a triple and his ninth home run of the season. Rowand also drove in three runs. Ryan Owens singled, doubled, and drove in four runs for Fullerton.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Titans defeated Pacific, 9-2. Erasmo Ramirez (5-4), who limited the Tigers to two runs on seven hits through eight innings, struck out nine and walked one.

Reed Johnson, Rowand and Owens each homered for the Titans.

Pacific is 18-11, 6-8.

In Golden State Athletic Conference baseball:

Concordia 6-10, Southern California College 5-3--Concordia’s Justin Duke singled to drive in the game-winning run with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 14th inning in the first game.

Concordia (15-18, 10-8) used a six-run third inning to blow open the second game. Seth Myers hit his sixth home run and Chad Smith was three for four with three RBIs.

In nonconference baseball:

Chapman 18, Claremont 6-- Chapman Coach Rex Peters won his 100th game as the Panthers scored in double figures for the third time in four games. Aaron Rifkin hit his eighth home run for the Panthers.

At the Big West Track Challenge:

Anteater women dominate meet--UC Irvine dominated the women’s running events, winning every event except the 3,000 meters at the Big West Challenge Saturday at Long Beach State.

Juniors Florence Sterni (100 and 200 meters) and Kristine Bostick (100 hurdles, 400 hurdles) each won two events. Christy Villa won the 1,500 meters in 4 minutes 33.82 seconds and Christie Engesser took the 800 meters in 2:12.06.

In the men’s events, Irvine’s Robert Frichtel won the 800 and the 1,500 and Ray Lewis won the 100 in 10.95.
