2 Noise Barriers to Be Built by Freeway
Residents who have roughly 327,000 San Diego Freeway motorists a day as next-door neighbors should be getting a little relief from highway noise later this summer.
A $759,000 state noise abatement project, delayed for three years due to budget shortfalls, officially began Tuesday with a groundbreaking ceremony in Leisure World. Construction should be completed sometime in August, Caltrans spokeswoman Rose Orem said.
The two noise barriers will be installed on the south side of the freeway near the Garden Grove and San Diego freeways interchange. Two sound walls--14 and 16 feet high--will stretch about half a mile along the freeway, joining with an existing wall.
Once the walls are completed, Caltrans plans to put in some landscaping to make them more attractive.
