Re “L.A. Plans to Chip In $90 Million for Oscars Theater Complex,” April 11: Trading books for Oscars? We the people are not in a financial position to build an edifice for the movie crowd. They have billions to spend on themselves and should do so.

We need to educate our kids, and books for schools must come first. We know that money is allocated to various pockets, such as the Community Redevelopment Agency, etc. So what? Invest our money where we get a return for all, not just the boys and girls of Hollywood.
