Six elderly pedestrians were injured Monday when a car hit them while they were waiting in a parking lot to board a tour bus headed for Las Vegas, authorities said.

The 6:48 a.m. accident in the 1900 block of West Florence Avenue began when a car driven by an 89-year-old woman was sent out of control by a hit-and-run driver and plowed into the group of people, said city Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells.

The injured, ranging in age from 70 to 80, were taken to hospitals for treatment, Wells said. Fannie Devault, 76, who suffered a broken hand, had the worst injury.
