The styles in “Don’t Look Back” (Spring Fashion Issue, Feb. 15) reminded me of the dresses that Appalachian girls used to make from feed sacks. It’s hard to tell whether the skinny models are in the dresses trying to get out, or out of the dresses trying to get in.

This trend should be known as the Sandwich Look: two pieces of cloth with a small amount of meat in between.

I loved the idea of using a gorilla as a companion to the model. At least the animal appeared to be healthy and well fed, unlike the model, who looked anorexic and in need of a nourishing meal.

I prefer the no-tricks, no-frills, understated fashion of the gorilla that shared the layout with the model.

In discussing Fred Hayman’s closing his store (“King of the Hills,” by Karen Stabiner, Feb. 15), we should mention Hayman’s philanthropies, from sizable contributions to charities to donations to nursing homes and grade schools. He truly is the gentleman you portrayed, and he deserves success in his new endeavor.
