An Oxnard man was in critical condition at a local hospital Sunday after being stabbed repeatedly in the back at a party, Oxnard Police Department officials said.

Leonard Spruiell, 26, suffered several stab wounds and was taken to St. John’s Regional Center where he was being treated at the hospital’s intensive care unit, a supervisor said.

Another Oxnard man at the party, Jerry Garcia, 26, was stabbed numerous times in the back and in his left arm and was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, said Officer Denise Shadinger. He was treated and released, a nursing supervisor there said.

The stabbings occurred about 11 p.m. Saturday at a home in the 1600 block of Cabrillo Way in Oxnard, Shadinger said. Witnesses told police that Garcia and Spruiell had been at the party for some time when several people attempted to force their way in.

The two men apparently began fighting with the party crashers and were stabbed.

Police on Sunday were investigating the incident and no arrests had been made.
