Rash of Poisonings Leaves 60 Birds Dead
From Times Wire Reports
A serial killer tagged “Son of Squab” by one local paper has been preying on pigeons, dosing bird food with pesticide so lethal that some feathered victims have died before they’ve finished swallowing the bait. Feed laced with the highly toxic pesticide carbofuran--which is illegal to use inside New York City limits--has been left around Manhattan, leaving more than 60 birds dead, mostly pigeons and sparrows. A red-tailed hawk and a peregrine falcon that fed on dead pigeons also fell victim.
