Fernando Espino had three hits but the JetHawks lost, 12-6, to the Modesto A’s on Tuesday night at Lancaster.

Rodney Clifton and Hipolito Martinez each had two hits and four runs batted in for Modesto. Martinez hit two home runs.

Alex Sanchez had five strikeouts in a seven-hitter and Marc DiCarlo extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a double, but the Suns lost, 4-1, to the Western Warriors in Oxnard.

Designated hitter Nate Dishington (Hoover) hit a home run and a run-scoring single to help Memphis beat Tacoma, 2-0.

Double A--Right-fielder Gabe Kapler (Taft, Moorpark College) had four hits and catcher Robert Fick (Newbury Park, Cal State Northridge) homered for Jacksonville in a 5-4 victory over Greenville. . . . Catcher Stacy Kleiner (Taft) hit a grand slam during a five-run sixth inning for Arkansas in a 7-2 victory over Shreveport. . . . Third baseman Dan Cey (El Camino) had three hits for New Britain in a 5-3 loss to Portland.

Class A--In his debut with Hickory, Chicago White Sox affiliate in the South Atlantic League, right-hander Jon Garland (Kennedy) struck out 11 and allowed two hits and one run in six innings of a 4-2 victory over Columbia. Garland was traded last week from Rockford (Ill.), a Chicago Cubs’ Class-A club. . . . Left-fielder Mike Glendenning (Crespi, Pierce) hit a home run for San Jose in a 7-2 victory over San Bernardino. . . . A three-run home run in the ninth by first baseman Pete Paciorek (Glendale College) wasn’t enough for Rancho Cucamonga in a 6-5 loss at Stockton.
