The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum, 1419 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd., Topanga, opens its 1998 Summer Alfresco Music Series at 8 p.m. Friday with a cabaret concert by sisters Ellen Geer and Melora Marshall. Accompanied by keyboardist Greg Hilfman, Geer and Marshall will perform original material as well as songs that have inspired them, including tunes by Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, the Eagles and Sting. Narrative, characterizations and poetry are added to the eclectic mix. The roots of this casual Friday-night series trace back to evenings at Will Geer’s place in the 1950s, when his fellow blacklisted artists would perform around campfires. Over the years, the outdoor amphitheater has hosted concerts by Pete Seeger, Della Reese and Woody Guthrie. $10. (310) 455-3723.

The score includes the songs “Try to Remember” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain.” Friday-Saturday, 8 p.m.; Sunday, 2:30 p.m. Ends Sept. 5. $13-$15. (818) 884-1907.
