Carrows Ads Are Filling . . . and Funny

Share

Advertiser: Carrows Restaurants

Agency: Kovel Kresser & Partners, Venice

Challenge: Convince heavy fast-food eaters they can get a better deal.

The Ads: TV spots show gigantic sandwiches and a couple, shown in silhouette, who comment on the food. “Never seen anything that tall,” says the guy. “What do you think they call it?” asks the woman. “Maybe the Paul Bunyan or the Mt. Everest,” the man replies. As they banter back and forth, they describe the sandwiches, the condiments and the $4.99 price for the sandwich platters.

Comment: The ads are similar to Comedy Central’s “Mystery Science Theatre 3000,” which features B-movies with running commentary from silhouetted robots in the foreground. So while the concept isn’t original, it is a fun device for Carrows to use to get attention. $$+
