Meteors from the annual Perseid shower fall Aug. 10-14, with the shower’s activity peaking Wednesday. The meteors--also called falling stars--are dust-size comet debris that falls through Earth’s atmosphere and burns up because of atmospheric friction. In a good year, a person in a dark location may see one meteor a minute at the peak and fewer in the days before and after, but this yea bright moonlight will wash out all but the brightest meteors.
