The fire that burned down an old, unoccupied commercial building in downtown Santa Ana on Tuesday night was deliberately set, a fire investigator said.

No incendiary device was found, Santa Ana Fire Department investigator Bob Eggleston said Wednesday. He declined to provide details on how the blaze started.

Firefighters got the call at 6:56 p.m. The fire was under control in half an hour, and pretty well extinguished shortly after 11 p.m., except for some embers. Firefighters stood watch through the night in case the fire started again. The wooden building burned to the ground, causing about $200,000 in damage, Acting Battalion Chief Brad Barnette said.
