Man Injured While Boogie-Boarding
A 19-year-old Ventura man was taken by helicopter to a hospital Wednesday with a possible spinal cord injury after he apparently dove into a rock or sandbar while riding his boogie board at Sycamore Cove Beach.
The accident occurred at 3:20 p.m. at the beach, about seven miles south of Point Mugu, said Rex Robinson, a lifeguard at a Leo Carrillo State Beach tower near Sycamore Cove.
“It looks like he may have hit a rock, judging by the lump on his head,” Robinson said.
The unidentified man was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, Robinson said.
A hospital spokeswoman said doctors were treating the man in the hospital’s intensive care unit. The extent of his injuries was unknown, she said.
