200-Acre Brush Fire Destroys Mobile Home

Share

Winds fanned the flames of a brush fire that charred 200 acres of brush Friday and claimed a mobile home and a junkyard containing old tires and cars before firefighters were able to put it out. No one was injured.

The fire broke out about 4 p.m. in the 39100 block of 10th Street East near Avenue P. It took about 200 firefighters and three helicopters to fully contain the flames by about 5:50 p.m., said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Christa Tolliver.

One man was living in the mobile home that was destroyed. He and a family who were living in a nearby house were evacuated, Graham said.

Authorities said late Friday that they did not know what caused the blaze. Sheriff’s deputies began an arson investigation.
