Key Executive Named at Downey Financial

Dan Rosenthal has been named chief operating officer of Newport Beach-based Downey Financial Corp. and its principal subsidiary, Downey Savings & Loan Assn. Rosenthal will continue as president of DSL Service Co., Downey Savings’ real estate development subsidiary.

Daniel L. Ogden has been appointed president and chief operating officer of Yokohama Tire Corp.’s U.S. operations in Fullerton. He had been chief operating officer since 1997. Before that, Ogden was president and chief operating officer of Emco Enterprises Inc. in Des Moines, and executive vice president of Bridgestone/Firestone’s North American tire operations.

Catherine Saar has joined Diedrich Coffee Inc. in Irvine as vice president, marketing and wholesale sales. She was vice president of marketing for Frame-n-Lens. Before that, Saar was director of corporate marketing for Smart-N-Final and held several positions in product development, merchandising, sales promotions, regional marketing and strategic planning with Taco Bell International.

Bill Redford has been named vice president of Sullivan & Curtis in Irvine, a risk management insurance brokerage. He is in charge of handling major clients in the hospitality, property management and self-storage fields. Redford started his career with Penn Mutual Life in Salt Lake City and was previously with Anderson & Anderson in Irvine.

Timothy J. Lawson has been appointed to the new position of vice president for Leighton & Associates Inc., a geotechnical consulting firm. Lawson, who joined the firm in 1989, is responsible for operation of the Irvine office.

Luci Rasmussen has been named advertising and promotions manager for Survivair, a Santa Ana manufacturer of fire and industrial respirator protection equipment. She has been with the company four years, serving as a marketing coordinator.

William Funk has joined Holmes & Narver, a design/build and program management firm in Orange, as senior vice president of construction services. He had been with the Austin Co. for 25 years.

Heidi Haller has been named director of sales and marketing for the new Hampton Inn South Orange County in Foothill Ranch. She has opened a number of hotels throughout the Saddleback Valley.

Jerome Niessen has joined Edison Capital in Irvine as regional vice president-Latin America. He will work out of the company’s Washington, D.C., office. Niessen previously served as an investment officer for the International Finance Corp., and most recently, developed wind power projects internationally.

Mike Barnett has been appointed general manager of Tuttle-Click’s Tustin Dodge in the Tustin Auto Center. He had been general sales manager for Tuttle-Click Chrysler/Jeep-Eagle in Irvine since 1995.

Jerry Rush has joined Amada America in Buena Park as director of products. He will give special attention to lasers and automated systems. Rush was previously Western regional sales manager for Mazak Nissho Iwai for five years.

Dennis Potts, associate with Gensler Newport Beach, has been elected president of Center 500 for fiscal year 1999 and will serve on the main board of directors for the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

Duane Terry has been named director of operations for Sony Trans Com, an Irvine airline entertainment system and content provider. He will have overall responsibility for the company’s manufacturing, engineering and material efforts. Terry was previously vice president of operations for Micronet Technologies, a manufacturer of computer storage subsystems. He has also held managerial positions with ICL, Storage Concepts and Sperry-Univac.

William R. Pieser and Kenneth R. Lally have been appointed executive vice presidents for Platinum Software Corp. in Irvine. Pieser was named executive vice president, product operations and marketing. He had been senior vice president of marketing and business development since 1996. Before joining Platinum, Pieser was vice president of marketing for Frame Technology Corp. Lally was appointed executive vice president, field and customer operations. He has served as senior vice president, worldwide field operations since 1996. Lally has also been vice president, spectrum services for North America at Cadence Design Systems.

Cornelia Eldridge has joined the board of Sims Communications Inc. in Irvine. She is president of Eldridge Associates Inc. Before opening her management consulting firm in 1981, Eldridge held management positions at Mass Mutual Life Insurance Co., Loeb Rhoades and Touche Ross & Co. She was also a partner at Ditri Associates, a leverage buyout firm.

John Schmid has been named vice president of Uni-Med Essex Management, a new division formed by Essex Realty Management in Costa Mesa and Uni-Med Realty Advisors in Newport Beach. The joint venture will specialize in management of medical office and health care facilities. Schmid had been with Uni-Med Realty Advisors.

George Anderson has been appointed to the new position of president-retail lending for New Century Mortgage Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of New Century Financial Corp. in Irvine. Anderson joined the company from Advanta Finance Corp., where he was president and chief executive. He has also been president and chief executive of Nova Financial Services.

Rebecca J. Callahan has joined the Irvine law firm of Wood, Bohm & Francis. She will continue to practice in the areas of business litigation, bankruptcy litigation and general insolvency law. Callahan was formerly a partner with Lobel, Winthrop & Broker and, most recently, had her own firm, Callahan & Associates in Newport Beach.

Lois Fox, vice president of marketing for Merit Property Management Inc. in Mission Viejo, will expand her responsibilities to include marketing and public relations for Merit Association Services, a sister company. Fox joined Merit more than 10 years ago as an account executive.

Patricia Burns has been named vice president, technology and services for Ingram Micro Europe. Joseph Larkin was appointed vice president of development. Both are in the information technology-worldwide division. Burns joined Ingram Micro last year as senior director of technology and services for the division, supporting the European region. Larkin, a 10-year veteran of Santa Ana-based Ingram Micro, previously served as director of systems development.
