Sunday

“Shark Week” / 9 p.m. Discovery Channel

After all these years, one wouldn’t think there was anything more to be learned about the infamous predator of the deep. Think again, friends. The folks at Discovery are offering five new shows delving into the creatures’ compelling behavior and characteristics. “Prehistoric Sharks” leads off the lineup Sunday, focusing on a fish-eater that feasted on whales millions of years ago. The week’s other originals are “Great White: In Search of the Giants” (also Sunday), “Zambezi Shark” (Monday), “Hammerheads: Nomads of the Sea” (Wednesday) and “Sharks of the Atlantic” (Friday).

“Jerry Seinfeld: I’m Telling You for the Last Time” / 9 p.m. HBO

If you were one of the lucky patrons to catch the comedian at his Hermosa Beach gig last month, odds are this HBO special will have a familiar ring. The rest of us can cross our fingers that the material on this stand-up show from Broadway boasts bigger laughs than Seinfeld’s so-so farewell in May. The tape-delayed telecast, which originates from Manhattan’s Broadhurst Theater, marks the end of an international tour that stopped in Melbourne, Stockholm and London.

Monday

“Penn & Teller’s Sin City Spectacular” / 9 p.m. FX

The dynamic duo is at it again, this time in a new series. It’s a Las Vegas-based variety show whose ads promise “wicked comedy, loud music and, of course, evil magic” with an eclectic lineup of guests recalling the heyday of Ed Sullivan. Or maybe not. Advance clips feature a pro wrestler twirling a ballerina in the ring, Alice Cooper looking on as Penn Jillette cuts up a snake with scissors and Drew Carey pouring rats on the head of Penn’s silent partner Teller. In other words, expect lots of tricks ... and treats.

“ABC Soaps’ Most Unforgettable Love Stories” / 10 p.m. ABC

There’s a whole lotta lovin’ during this hourlong special recounting the captivating couples and romantic relationships of “Port Charles,” “All My Children,” “One Life to Live” and “General Hospital.” Susan Lucci, David Canary, Peter Bergman, Robert S. Woods, Vanessa Marcil, Lynn Herring and Jon Lindstrom reminisce about their twisting trials and tribulations. Clips illustrate various aspects of amore, from “second chances” and “tempestuous triangles” to “til death do us part” and “opposites attract.”

Tuesday

“The DeMille Dynasty” / 7 p.m. AMC

He once was the greatest showman on Earth (or at least Hollywood). This crisp, straightforward biography paints a flattering portrait of pioneering producer-director Cecil B. DeMille and his talented family. Produced by granddaughter Cecilia, this hour traces the highly successful career of the exacting task master whose grand spectacles included “The Ten Commandments,” “Cleopatra” and “Union Pacific.” It also recalls the fortunes of his playwright brother William and niece Agnes, the brilliant choreographer. The anecdotes aren’t always revealing, but you can’t accuse narrator Charlton Heston of overstatement when he says, “A DeMille picture was always an event.”

Wednesday

“Hey, Mr. Producer! The Musical World of Cameron Mackintosh” / 8 p.m. KCET

The man behind “Cats,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Les Miserables” and “Miss Saigon” is the subject of a “Great Performances” salute. Bernadette Peters, Elaine Paige, Colm Wilkinson, Dame Judi Dench, Jonathan Pryce, Lea Salonga and Stephen Sondheim sing the praises of the British impresario in this London benefit staged with Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh in attendance.

Saturday

“Skitch Henderson at 80” / 8 p.m. KCET

Take it away, maestro. The versatile New York Pops conductor steps to center stage at Carnegie Hall for a musical celebration of his 80th birthday and the 15th anniversary of his enduring group. Mike Wallace and columnist Liz Smith are hosts of the PBS special, which has performances by Isaac Stern (“Liebesleid”), Harolyn Blackwell (“Summertime”) and Steve Allen, who tinkles the ivories on “This Could Be the Start of Something Big.”
