Kile Gets It Done and Beats the Mets

Darryl Kile was determined to complete the job at home.

Kile, hit hard in his previous two starts, pitched nine innings Sunday and Dante Bichette went four for five to lead the Colorado Rockies to an 11-4 victory over the New York Mets at Coors Field.

“I wanted to finish the game,” said Kile, who threw 140 pitches in his third complete game this season. “Even though I threw quite a few pitches, I felt fine at the end.”

Kile (8-14) gave up 10 hits and improved to 9-2 in his career against the Mets.

Atlanta 7, San Francisco 5--Dennis Martinez became the winningest Latin pitcher in baseball history with 243 victories when Chipper Jones hit a tiebreaking, two-run single in the ninth inning at San Francisco.

St. Louis 2, Chicago 1--Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa were both kept in the ballpark and John Mabry’s pinch-hit homer was the difference at at St. Louis.

Milwaukee 4, Cincinnati 3--Leadoff hitter Fernando Vina revived Milwaukee’s offense with a pair of hits and steals as the Brewers rebounded from consecutive shutouts by winning at Cincinnati.

Houston 11, Philadelphia 2--Shane Reynolds got his 14th victory as the Astros completed a three-game sweep at Houston.

Moises Alou drove in four runs for the Astros with a two-run homer and a two-run double.

Montreal 8, Arizona 2--Bob Henley’s two-run double keyed a five-run, two-out rally in the seventh inning as the Expos rallied at Montreal.
