Car Hits CHP Cruiser; No Serious Injuries
A California Highway Patrol officer’s car was hit by another vehicle over the weekend as the officer drove through an intersection on his way to responding to an emergency call, Sheriff’s Department officials said.
The car driven by Officer David Songer, 30, was broadsided by a 1994 Oldsmobile at 1:18 p.m. Saturday while traveling eastbound on Auto Center Drive near Rose Avenue, said CHP Officer Dave Cockrill.
Songer, who had waited until the intersection was clear before he flashed his lights and preceded, was hit by the northbound Oldsmobile, Cockrill said.
The driver of the Oldsmobile, Corel Cano, 45, and her 19-year-old daughter, Diana Quebedo, were transported by ambulance to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where they were treated and released.
The officer was uninjured, Cockrill said.
CHP officials said the six-year veteran took precautions as he was responding to an accident call.
An investigation is pending.
