Couple Wounded in Apparent Domestic Shooting

A man and wife were both in critical condition Monday night after he allegedly shot her several times and then himself, authorities said.

There was no evidence that the two argued before the shooting or had a troubled marriage, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. David Sauer. Their names were not released.

“We don’t know if he just whacked out [or] he’s depressed over something,” Sauer said. “Until she can talk,” they won’t know, he said.

The 66-year-old man allegedly walked into an office in his home in the 41400 block of 67th Street West about 8:30 a.m. and shot his 61-year-old wife three times in the upper body, Sauer said. He then apparently shot himself in the head. She was able to call 911 and was airlifted to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.

He was taken by ground ambulance to Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster. Both underwent surgery and were believed to be in critical condition Monday night, authorities said.
