To give residents some relief from the heat, the City Council has approved extended hours at four local swimming pools through Sept. 7.

Summer youth programs like water polo and aqua-aerobics have seen an increase in attendance over the past few weeks, officials said.

Pools with extended hours are:

* El Salvador Park, 1825 Civic Center Drive West. Tuesdays through Fridays, 8:30 a.m to 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays, 12:30 to 5 p.m.
