Rescue Effort for Tenderfoot Pooch
Re “Hike Is No Walk in the Park for Hapless Dog,” Aug. 11.
I felt sorry for that poor 6-year-old dog, Choloe, that hiked up Santa Paula Canyon with his owner last weekend and got his paws too blistered to hike back down.
Sore, blistered feet have put a damper on hiking for many weekend warriors. Used to city living, dogs can get just as out of shape as their owners.
Even people in shape probably would not try hiking a rigorous trail such as Santa Paula Canyon barefoot!
There are a couple of brands of doggie booties on the market that fasten around the dog’s paws to protect the pads. Available at outdoor and mountaineering stores, they cost $25 to $30 for a set of four. This is an easy and inexpensive way to solve an age-old problem.
