Relievers Are Dominating for Vigilantes
Josh Belovsky struck out five of the six batters he faced to get the save as the Vigilantes beat Bend, 5-4, in a Western League baseball game Saturday in front of an announced crowd of 1,994 at Saddleback College.
Reliever Chad Wanders entered in the sixth inning and gave up a hit but no runs. Carlos Castillo pitched a perfect seventh before Belovsky came on to get his seventh save. Castillo (1991) and Belovsky (1994) pitched on state championship teams at Cypress College.
Kevin Tahan had four hits, drove in a run, and scored twice for the Vigilantes (13-15). Tahan’s RBI single capped a two-run fifth as Mission Viejo opened a 5-1 lead.
Bend (10-16) scored three times in the sixth to get within a run, 5-4.
Kendrick Davis drove in a run with a single in the second, Robert Muro had an RBI double in the third and Tahan scored on a wild pitch in the fourth for Mission Viejo.
Tim Davidson (3-6) gave up 10 hits and four runs in five-plus innings to get the victory.
