Authorities investigated the cause of a single-engine plane crash Monday that left four people injured, one of them critically, on the campus of a junior high school.

A Cessna crash-landed upside down on the athletic field at Daniel Webster Junior High School about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells.

The plane came to rest within 100 feet of homes neighboring the school, which is at 11330 Graham Place.

The plane was heading from Santa Barbara to Santa Monica Airport when it crashed, said Bruce Nelson, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

The aircraft may have hit power lines, but it was unclear whether that was the cause of the accident, authorities said. There was no fuel leakage or fire as a result of the crash.

Paramedics took the injured to UCLA Medical Center.

John Bosveld, 36, was in critical condition Monday, said hospital spokeswoman Roxanne Yamaguchi Moster.

Paula Ostrove, 34, was in fair condition with facial cuts and back injuries. Paul Ostrove, 36, her husband, was released after treatment, as was Michelle Machowsky, 27, Moster said.

It was not immediately known who was piloting the airplane.
