No Elections Needed in 5 School Districts

Share

Four Orange County school districts are expected to cancel elections in November because no one is challenging incumbent trustees on the boards.

Under election codes, Cypress, Fullerton Joint Union, La Habra City and Savanna school districts can appoint the incumbents rather than hold the election.

A fifth school district, Buena Park-based Centralia, has three candidates, including two incumbents, running for three seats and is expected to make appointments as well.

The candidates would be sworn in Dec. 4 as usual, said Suzanne Slupsky, section supervisor of the registration and elections department at the registrar of voters.

Canceling the elections will save the Centralia and Cypress school districts about $18,000 each. The other districts could not be reached for comment.

The expected appointments in the districts, each with three seats available, are as follows:

* Cypress School District--Ellen R. Friedmann, David Giese and Southfield.

* Fullerton Joint Union High School--Marilyn Buchi, Robert Hathaway and Singer.

* La Habra City School District--Linda Navarro Edwards, Antonio Valle Jr. and Nancy S. Zinberg.

* Savanna School District--Edward A. Erdtsieck, Patrick V. Ochoa and Linda R. Weinstock.

In the Centralia School District, incumbents Karen Blake and Gloria Scanlon are expected to be appointed. Newcomer Art Montez would fill a third seat.
