Explosive Dents Mailbox; Sheriff’s Team Investigates
A sheriff’s arson team safely destroyed a small explosive that was placed in the mailbox of a private residence Tuesday after another device exploded there, damaging the mailbox.
A resident of the home on Wakefield Road called authorities after hearing an explosion about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy John McBride. The unidentified resident found another explosive in the mailbox.
“The arson team removed the second device remotely and rendered it safe,” McBride said.
No one was injured in the explosion, which dented the mailbox.
Sheriff’s officials said the explosives were M-100s, which are similar to very large firecrackers. Officials said they had no suspects and were unsure whether the home had been targeted or if the explosives were randomly placed in the mailbox as a prank.
