Red Cross Holding Immunization Clinic

The Red Cross is holding it ninth annual immunization clinic, called Kids Fair, this weekend at more than 30 locations in Southern California, including several in Los Angeles County.

The goal of the event is to stop the spread of preventable diseases by offering free health screenings and immunizations to children ages 2 months to 18 years.

This year, the fair will include hepatitis B immunizations.

Beginning in July, all students entering seventh grade in California will be required to have had three hepatitis B shots, which much be spaced several months apart.

The fair will also offer immunizations against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio, meningitis, measles, mumps and rubella. The vaccines are provided by local county health departments.

Health screenings include height and weight measurements, blood pressure checks, dental care, family health reviews and vision screening.

Parents should bring their children’s previous immunization records to the fair, which will be held Saturday and Sunday. For information on locations and times, call (800) 870-KIDS (5437).
