One driver was arrested and 10 citations were handed out at a police sobriety and licensing checkpoint on Vineyard Avenue on Thursday night.

Police arrested one motorist on suspicion of driving under the influence. Seven license violation citations and three citations for other vehicle code violations were issued, authorities say.

The traffic division of the Oxnard Police Department, working with the Port Hueneme Police Department, operated the checkpoint between 6 p.m. and midnight on the westbound side of the thoroughfare at Kentia Street, said Ken Klopman, a senior Oxnard police officer.

At the checkpoint, Oxnard and Port Hueneme police screened about 700 drivers and vehicles for signs of drug or alcohol impairment and license violations. One field sobriety test was administered, Klopman said.

Another checkpoint is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday in Port Hueneme, Klopman said.
