His Legacy Weaves Web Into Community

Share

With all the nonstories about Monica Lewinsky and President Clinton, I was prepared to fire off another angry letter to The Times.

However, I just read “A Shared Sadness” (Aug. 7), and I realized that Gary Holleman’s legacy reminded us “not to sweat the small stuff.” Anyone can write angry letters, but the ability to bring together a community of voices, not just keystrokes on a computer, but a sense of caring that can bridge the gaps between us, does more good than railing against the Starrs and Republicans of this world ever could.

Thanks to Russ Parsons for sharing Holleman’s moving story with us; someday when I join the Internet, it won’t seem so scary.
