A 25-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition after touching a high-tension power line while helping move a house, officials said Wednesday.

Cal/OSHA launched an immediate investigation into the incident that occurred early Wednesday as a home was being moved on a truck.

The man, whose identity was not released, was one of two employees of Griffin Cable who were riding in baskets attached to truck crane arms that were lifting overhead lines to provide a 32-foot clearance for the house, Cal/OSHA spokesman Dean Spicer said.

Spicer said the man was severely burned when he attempted to lift an Edison power line at South Craig Avenue and Oakdale Street.

“It is our understanding they were aware it was a power line,” Spicer said. “Edison officials had been contacted and were to be on site, but they were not there yet when the man was injured.”

Paramedics took the man to a local hospital with severe burns to his arms and legs, county fire inspector Ed Loney said.
