Tampa Bay Devil Ray shortstop Kevin Stocker suffered a broken left wrist in the opener of the franchise’s first-ever doubleheader Saturday and is out for the season. Stocker suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch from Detroit’s Justin Thompson.

Stocker, batting .208, was acquired from the Phillies in November for outfielder Bobby Abreu and signed a three-year contract earlier this season.

Todd Hundley will not be around to help the New York Mets pursue a playoff berth, but the team is hoping his absence now will help in October if they do make the playoffs.

Hundley, whose experiment in left field with the Mets has ended, was placed on the disabled list, although he is not injured. He is to join the Met triple-A Norfolk affiliate in Durham, N.C., today to get some more at-bats.

If the Mets do make the playoffs, a decision on whether Hundley will play won’t be due until Sept. 27.

Met General Manager Steve Phillips said Hundley’s role would be a “postseason bench player,” at best.
