Winds Responsible for 2 Power Failures
Wind gusts of up to 30 mph caused two power outages in the western end of Ventura County on Sunday.
In Ventura, nearly 2,000 people lost power for slightly more than an hour beginning about 12:45 p.m., a Southern California Edison spokesman said. In the east end of Ojai, about 200 customers were without power between 2 and 4 p.m.
Palm fronds entangled in power lines caused both power failures, Edison spokesman Rudy Gonzales said.
Conditions are expected to improve today but it should still be a windy week, said Jonathan Slemmer, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
“That’s the only big thing we’ll have to be contending with,” he said. “There’s not much out there in the way of storms. “
Winds in other parts of Southern California, including the Newhall area, reached highs of 50 mph, Slemmer said.
After overnight lows in the upper 30s, high temperatures today are expected to reach into the mid-60s.
